Chapter History
In February of 2004, a freshman at the College of New Jersey, who also happened to be a legacy of Sigma Alpha Epsilon took a look at the fraternities on campus and realized that none of them were the right fit for him. After realizing that this was the case with many other men on campus, he decided that he would try to start a chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at TCNJ. This new group of men began the long task of founding a new chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
After months of completing paperwork, the group was approved by ΣAE Nationals for Expansion. In the Fall of 2004, with 25 future members pledging their support, the application for was presented to the TCNJ Expansion Board and approved for continuation of the process. On November 11th, 2004, the 25 members stood behind the future Eminent Archon as he explained to the Inter-Greek Council why an additional fraternity was necessary on campus. The group received more than the required two-thirds vote and was approved as a new chapter on campus.
On December 11th, 2004, this founding group of men was entered into the brotherhood of Sigma Alpha Epsilon through a Colonization Ceremony attended by friends, family, and members of the Greek community. The Colony began to fully implement itself and soon became a true presence on campus, participating in many philanthropy, fundraising, and social events, even becoming Homecoming Champions the first year it entered.
The Colony officially became the New Jersey Tau Gamma Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon on March 8th, 2006. Since then, the chapter has continued to thrive, currently boasting over 50 active brothers, with no signs of slowing down.
